Maxalt (rizatriptan) and Imigran (sumatriptan) are two medicins for the treatment of migraine. The problem with Imigran is that people have to take it with water. Often people feel that they need to eat something first before taking Imigran. This takes time, and for both medicins counts that they can be more effective when taken earlier. Several dosages are available for Imigram, so if the headache is really bad you can take a bigger dose. Maxalt does not need to be taken with water, and eating something first is usually not necessary. A disadvantage of Maxalt is that there is only one dosage possible. People should not take to doses of Maxalt simultaneously, even if their headache is very heavy. Another side effect of Maxalt is that people get very tired. The headache goes away, but the day or evening is lost anyway. When taking a dose of Maxalt late in the evening people can still feel tired the next morning. A side effect of both drugs is that the mouth becomes dry. And that is not good for your teeth. So make sure that you brush your teeth well on the days that you take such medicines. Unfortunately it takes often a lot of discipline to resist the headache and brush your teeth.
