I have seen many cases where an only child chooses to emigrate. Often this only child has a dominant mother. I have not read about any scientific study confirming this.

Families are much smaller than they used to be, especially in developed countries. So if an only child is more likely to emigrate than children with brothers and sisters then this may have some interesting demographic consequences.
