It was for the first time ever that we planned for such a thing. "Camping" on an island was always a dream or rather should I say "Camping" in general was a dream. How on earth could it be possible that we spend almost one year of our lives in Netherlands and we "Do not go Dutch". We would have always regretted our entire lives if we did not do this here.

Vlieland was suggested to us by one of our clients. With their help we were able to make all the necessary arrangements. We borrowed a tent and four sleeping bags from them.

On Saturday, 26th May 2007, we boarded on the 09:28 train from Amsterdam Zuid to Leeuwarden. The final destination of this train was to Groningen. From Leeuwarden we had to change a train to Harlingen. We reached Harlingen at 13:24. At 14:15 the ferry for Vlieland left from Harlingen. It took approximately 105 minutes to reach Vlienland. The journey was fantastic.

The moment we stepped on the island, we hired bicycles from a nearby store and rode off towards the camping site. We lost our way and rode off further away from the site. A ten miutes journey almost took us 75 minutes. Well anyway, it was good as it helped us explore the place a bit.

We chose a nice spot and started setting up the tent. With 15 minutes the tent was up and we were all delighted. It was a great sense of relief. Finally we had done it. We cooked our own dinner and all of us enjoyed every bit of it.

The next day we went around seeing all the places in Vlieland. We saw the light house, the beaches ,did not spent a lot of time due to bad weather though. It was great fun. We enjoyed every moment of it even the part when we had to put all our energy to cycle against the wind  .  In the evening we boarded the last ferry to Harlingen.

Vlieland is a wonderful place and is a must see. Its a good place to hang around with friends and enjoy each others company.
